Call Senators Feinstein and Boxer

We urgently need you to call Senators Feinstein and Boxer. Please call the Capitol Switchboard at (888) 460-0813 and ask to talk to their offices now.

SCANPH, along with other housing advocates, are part of the A.C.T.I.O.N national coalition that seeks passage of a comprehensive set of proposals that can strengthen the housing tax credit program and contribute to job creation. The Senate is considering jobs legislation this week. However, the Baucus-Grassley jobs and tax extenders bill currently includes only one of our proposals, the extension of the 9% exchange program. If we don't act now, our other proposals may not be included.

Call Senators Feinstein and Boxer today from the Capitol Switchboard at (888) 460-0813 and tell them to include all the proposals in the final Senate jobs bill:

1) Extend the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit) exchange program to include bond-financed housing;
2) Increase the Housing Credit carryback period to 5 years for new housing and qualifying existing housing; and,
3) Expand the Housing Credit investor base by permitting Subchapter S, LLCs, and closely-held corporations to utilize the Credit.

Let them know that these critically needed proposals will provide needed affordable housing to low-income Americans and help construct or rehabilitate 138,000 new affordable apartments and create or save 160,000 jobs through 2011.

Over $12 billion in local income, $1.2 billion in revenue to states and localities, and $3.4 billion in federal revenue would help to stimulate the economy.

Without any action, 60,000 affordable apartments and as many as 70,000 jobs may be lost annually.
