If You Have A Project In These Congressional Districts We Need Your Help!

If your Representative is Ken Calvert, Jerry Lewis, Lucille Roybal-Allard or Adam Schiff take action to fully fund federal housing programs! HUD & Rural Programs are currently underfunded for FY 2013 - urge these House Approprations Committee members to fully fund HUD and Rural Housing programs in the THUD Appropriations Subcommittee Bill. Find out who your Congressional Representative is here.

Last week the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies (THUD) marked up its FY13 spending bill for HUD programs. The House Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies (Agriculture) also marked up its bill for rural rental housing programs. Both bills underfund important housing programs including Tenant Based Rental Assistance, Project-Based Rental Assistance, Public Housing Operating and Capital, and Homeless Assistance Grants.

Urge your Representative to fully fund HUD programs that are underfunded in the THUD Subcommittee bill:

• Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Contract Renewals - at least $19.75 billion to fully fund all voucher renewals in FY13 and restore vouchers that will be lost in FY12
• Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) - at least $9.88 billion to renew all contracts for 12 months
• Public Housing - $5 billion for Operating and $3.75 billion for Capital
• Homeless Assistance Grants - the President's FY13 requested level of $2.231 billion

The Agriculture Subcommittee bill would cut USDA rural rental housing programs below FY12 funding levels. The Senate Committee on Appropriations has already passed its FY13 Agriculture bill with insufficient funding levels for the Section 515, Section 516, and Section 521 programs.

Urge your Representative to include strong funding for rural affordable rental housing programs in the final House Agriculture bill:

• Fund rural rental housing programs to at least the FY11 funding levels:
• Farm Labor Housing programs - Section 514 and Section 516 at $26 million and $10 million, respectively - for loans and grants to build rental housing for farm workers
• Section 515 Rental Housing Direct program - $70 million for the development of affordable rural rental housing
• Section 521 Rental Assistance program - $956 million to provide rental assistance to low income people in rural areas

If you have properties, an office, or reside in the district represented by an Appropriations Committee member, please call their Washington, D.C. office and convey that cutting HUD and rural rental housing programs will harm constituents in their districts and across California.
