Many of you have heard the news and, if you haven't this letter is to inform you, that our Founder, Guiding Light, and President and CEO, Dr. DarEll T. Weist, retired as of the end of January from 1010 Development Corporation. "Out to pasture" as they say, or in his case, a chance to slow down and engage in some long deferred interests and projects. Fortunately, he will continue as a member of the Board of Directors.
Obviously, we will miss him greatly. We are thankful for his 17 years at the helm of 1010, during which he has taken the development of faith-based affordable housing to a new level of careful and interesting design, solid construction, good management, and attendant social services. To show for it, 1010 has in its portfolio Villa Flores (75 senior units), Hope Village (66 family units), Casa Shalom (30 family units), Central Avenue Villa (20 family units), and soon to open, JW Apartments (61 family units). Other projects are on the "drawing board."
But, we have very good news too. We are pleased to welcome, as the new President and CEO of 1010, Ms. K.T. Gazunis, former Housing Director of Eagle County, Colorado, who has moved to Southern California and is taking over DarEll's job. She comes with great experience in developing affordable housing and a great track record. We hope you will welcome K.T. and have an enjoyable and successful experience working with her.
All of us at 1010 intend to continue, within the limits of our resources, to make available in Los Angeles outstanding affordable housing for those among us who cannot afford "market rate" housing.
Sincerely, Byron Hayes, Jr., Board Chair, 1010 Development Corporation
