We Need Your Help Today! Support the New Federal Stimulus Proposals for Affordable Homes

CHPC

SCANPH is supporting the new federal stimulus proposals of the California Federal Policy Project and we urgently need your help now!

At stake are new funding for affordable homes, increased low-income renter and homeless prevention resources, more federal help for homeowners caught in the financial crisis, and improvements in the debt and equity markets.

On November 18, 2008, fifty-five nonprofit and public housing agency leaders from across California gathered in Speaker Pelosi's San Francisco district to develop a bold plan to stimulate the economy through new federal investment in preserving and creating affordable homes for lower-income Americans.

Most recently, the Federal Policy Project kicked off an outreach campaign by sending letters to every member of Congress from California. View the full four-page Federal Policy Project proposal here and the one-page proposal summary here.

We Need Your Help Immediately! The window to influence the stimulus package is closing fast!

SCANPH requests all of our members and allies to send letters and make calls to your Congressional representatives and their housing staff (listed here) in Washington D.C. expressing your organizations support for the proposals.

1) Download the SAMPLE LETTER for you to fill out.

2) Look up your representative here (Roll Call zip code search) or here (US House zip code and 4-digit extension search).

We would also encourage you to contact Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer as well.

3) It is critical that we track who you have contacted. As soon as you make contact, please e-mail Marilyn Wacks at mwacks@chpc.net to let her know who you contacted and what response, if any, you received.

Your help is vital. Please contact Robert Dhondrup, SCANPH Director of Communications, at 213.480.1249 if you have any questions or need any assistance in getting your letters out. And, please don't forget your calls to your representatives as well.

• The Federal Policy Project is also conducting a survey of stimulus-eligible affordable-home projects. Please complete the Stimulus Survey here and e-mail it to Marilyn Wacks at mwacks@chpc.net by Thursday, December 11th.
