AB 602 Clears State Legislature!
Now request Governor Schwarzenegger to Sign

AB 602 addresses something that was promised in the original SB 375 bill negotiations. AB 602 overturns a portion of the Urban Habitat Program v. City of Pleasanton (2008) case, in which an appellate court ignored clear legislative intent and limited all challenges to a housing element's adequacy to the first 90 days after the element is adopted.

Update: AB 2293 Passes State Senate Appropriations Committee

(SCANPH is sharing this news with our members via a communication we recevied from Julie Snyder of Housing CA) Good news! HCA's AB 2293 got off the Senate Appropriations Committee's suspense file yesterday on an 11-0 bipartisan vote.

This was a big step, as hundreds of bills didn't get off the suspense file. The bill was amended to require HCD to reserve/escrow permanent funds under MHP, TOD, and Joe Serna to provide a more solid guarantee to the construction lender.

UPDATE: HR 4213 Gains 60 Votes Support BUT Does Not Include Housing Provisions

(Updated Information July 20, 2010) The Senate is now on the verge of passing H.R. 4213, which among its many provisions had once included $1B in funding for the National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF) and the extension of the 9 percent Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) exchange program.

Both provisions are now NOT part of the final legislation being voted upon today in the Senate. According to our advocates in Washington DC, we are hoping to see the Senate reconsider adding these provisions within another bill next week.
