(Los Angeles, CA – 07/27/2012) – Menorah Housing Foundation today received a 2012 MetLife Foundation Award for Excellence in Affordable Housing for its work with Long Beach Senior Housing in Long Beach, CA.  Presented by Enterprise Community Partners, Inc., and MetLife Foundation, the award honors Menorah Housing Foundation’s outstanding leadership, innovation, effectiveness and quality operations and services in the area of affordable senior housing.  The award also recognizes the organization for successfully incorporating green components in their housing.

Merritt Community Capital Corp. Opens Southern California Office

LOS ANGELES, CA, July 10, 2012 – Merritt Community Capital Corp. has opened a Southern California office in downtown Los Angeles. Merritt is based in Oakland, California and is the only California-focused nonprofit housing credit syndicator in the state. Since 1998, Merritt has invested in 11 affordable housing properties in Southern California creating or preserving nearly 700 units of affordable housing across six Southern California counties.

Whittall-Scherfee Appointed Deputy Director of Financial Assistance

Laura Whittall-Scherfee has been appointed by Governor Jerry Brown to serve as the Deputy Director of Financial Assistance at the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). Whittall-Scherfee has over twenty-five years of experience in commercial, multifamily and residential mortgage lending, program development and program management. 

Redevelopment Trailer Bill Provides At Least $725 Million for Housing

(update from Housing California) After six months of turmoil and policy debate, Democrats in the legislature and Governor Brown have reached agreement on legislation to clarify and modify various provisions of last year's AB 26x, which dissolved redevelopment agencies. Both houses are scheduled to take up the bill Wednesday morning (June 27, 2012) at 9 A.M. and send it directly to Governor Brown.
