During the summer of 2021, SCANPH launched a new workshop series on asset and property management due to member requests for more programming on these subjects. This new programming is made possible by the support of developer members who have participated in SCANPH's annual property-based fee.

  • Disability claims are the number one Fair Housing complaint resulting in large settlements. This session provided attendees practical insights and tools to help housing providers understand the difference between accommodations vs. modifications, ADA issues, important legalities, budget planning to cover accessibility, cost containment, and insights on the challenges that front-line staff face.

  • Insurance and risk management leaders reviewed how habitability lawsuits are severely impacting affordable housing operations in California, best practices recommended to prevent and defend such claims, as well as an open discussion and poll about potential solutions to minimize risk to nonprofit housing developers and operators.

Additionally, the training will cover compliance with the exemption and structuring relating to low-income housing.
