Workshop Recap: Manager Bootcamp - Asset/Property Management Session

On Tuesday, August 10th, SCANPH convened for the final educational workshop in our new asset and property management series for a manager’s boot camp titled, “Connecting the Dots Between Attitude and Leadership.” Effective leadership is grounded in an understanding of powerful interpersonal skills that inspire performance, communication, employee retention, and motivation to achieve goals. This session covered communication tips, such as how to provide support and encouragement for your team, how to offer sincere feedback, delegate meaningful work, reduce negative attitudes and behaviors, and address the importance of connecting the dots between management and leadership. Since top-performing managers always have a knack for forging connections and building relationships, Angel Rogers joined us from National Core to explore how to best cultivate these skills.

Kicking off the session, Rogers outlined her goals; gaining an understanding of how attitude impacts others and relates to workplace outcomes. Rogers asked attendees to think about whether your attitude is worth catching. One of greatest gifts a leader can bring is self-awareness and understanding of personal attitude. As a leader in a management position, your employees watch your every move. Attitude is often hidden in company culture, but positive attitudes can be brought to life through positive visions and when leaders believe they can turn positive visions into reality.

Those who develop a positive vision, set goals, take daily actions and choose positive self-talk will thrive in leadership roles and this effect will trickle down throughout a workplace. While it’s often difficult to stay positive when surrounded by negative people, Rogers reminded attendees to avoid dwelling on negativity. By adopting a sense of personal responsibility and a team-centered mindset, leaders can become better listeners and generate a positive impact on lasting company legacy.
